Charles “C.J.” Young is a lifelong Wyomingite, public servant, small business owner, and candidate for Wyoming Secretary of State. Raised on a ranch in rural Wyoming, C.J. learned the values of hard work, responsibility, and community from an early age while helping care for the land and animals that supported his family.
C.J. previously served as Director of the Elections Division in the Wyoming Secretary of State’s Office, where he worked closely with county clerks and state leaders on election administration, security, and operations. Most recently, he served as Military and Veterans Liaison for Congresswoman Harriet Hageman before resigning to campaign full time for Secretary of State. He also previously worked with the Wyoming Department of Corrections overseeing grievance investigations, policy, compliance, and public information efforts.
In addition to his civilian career, C.J. serves as an officer in the United States Navy Reserve and volunteers with Civil Air Patrol mentoring Wyoming youth, supporting emergency service missions, and promoting aerospace education. He earned degrees from Western Wyoming Community College, the University of Wyoming, and the University of Wyoming College of Law.
C.J. comes from a family deeply committed to Wyoming communities. His father has practiced rural medicine in Carbon County for more than 30 years, and his younger brother is completing medical residency training with plans to return home to serve rural Wyoming. Inspired by his late mother’s example of faith, service, and compassion, C.J. believes government should be honest, effective, and focused on serving the people of Wyoming.
